Project Overview

The Walsall to Rugeley 25kV power upgrade formed a core part of Network Rail’s Midland electrification strategy, aiming to support cleaner, faster and more reliable electric services across Staffordshire and the West Midlands. ADY-HV was appointed to deliver high-volume 25kV jointing and termination works along the upgraded traction network. The scope covered over 160 3M straight joints and Pfisterer terminations, alongside the integration of traction return cabling required for system balance and safe return current paths.
Our skilled HV jointers worked in close coordination with OLE teams, enabling safe and efficient energisation of the new 25kV AC traction system between key stations and substations. The works were completed in line with Network Rail standards and formed part of the successful system commissioning.

Scope of Works

  • Over 160 high-voltage joints and terminations installed across the 25kV AC network.
  • 3M straight joints and Pfisterer dry outdoor terminations used in accordance with project material specifications.
  • Installation of traction return conductors, ensuring low-impedance paths and electrical safety.
  • Support for trackside joint bay build, including site preparation, moisture protection and containment.
  • Installation quality checks, cable phasing validation, and post-joint inspection support.
  • Close integration with OLE, civils and substation commissioning teams for energisation readiness.
