Challenges

• Maintaining the correct phasing throughout the terminating and jointing works
• Advising our client on an earthing arrangement whilst terminating XLPE single core cables with aluminium armours and copper tape screen

Solutions

• With the use of fluke Ady-HV jointing teams checked the phasing of all cables before terminating each circuit to ensure they were no phase crosses. As the cable had both aluminium armours and copper foil screens, the team advised the client to use heat shrink top hat glands and bring a copper tinned braid from the pot to earth the armours and a braid from the copper foil screen, secured with a constant force spring to ensure both layers of the cable were correctly earthed. We are proud to be a part of a project which ensures any excess energy is recycled back to the grid to help with demands across other parts of the county.
